The COVID-19 pandemic has created chaos and uncertainty for the entire world. As spas and salons begin to open back up, you will likely find that you aren't getting as much business right now as you typically do. So what can you do in the meantime while you are building your business back up? How can you handle this stressful time and ensure that you are making your clients feel as comfortable as possible? Here are a few tips.

1. Understand and follow all the safety guidelines

Safety guidelines differ from state to state so make sure you have a comprehensive understanding of all of the guidelines you need to be following to re-open your practice. Follow safety guidelines from the CDC as well as your state. Read more about the guidelines for re-opening. You also want to make sure you are paying adequate attention to cleaning and sanitizing any equipment you may be using in your practice.

2. Sell products online

If you sell any skin care products or other retail products, now is the perfect time to start selling online or increase your marketing for your online store. You may want to consider offering discounts to increase your business online. You may also want to start selling gift certificates for your practice. That way people can support your practice even if they don’t feel comfortable coming in at the moment.

3. Be flexible with your clientele and staff

This is a time to be flexible. You may want to re-think cancellation fees for the time being, for example. Make sure your clients know they can cancel appointments without penalty if they aren’t feeling well. You also want to be flexible with your staff. Many people still don’t feel comfortable going to work. Empower your staff to be able to stay home if they aren’t feeling comfortable coming in.

4. Offer hand sanitizer and face masks to make clients more at ease

You’d be surprised how much more comfortable it can make your clients feel if you just take a moment to offer them hand sanitizer or face masks. You want to show them that you are doing everything you can for their safety and health.

5. Focus on your marketing and social media

Now is an excellent time to really focus on putting out the best online content you can. Have you always wanted to start a YouTube channel with videos that provide tips on skin care, for example? Do you want to start a blog about the latest laser technology for cosmetic procedures? Now is a great time to do so. It’s also a great time to build up your Instagram, Twitter, or other social media so that you can connect with the community. This is a great way to stay connected with those clients who don’t quite feel comfortable enough to come in.

The most important thing to remember is that it’s an uncertain time for everyone. It may be a difficult time for your practice, and you may want to look into available assistance to small businesses. But we will all figure it out together as we continue to navigate our way through this unprecedented global health crisis.
